Things to do when you lost your way

Things to do when you lost your way

“We wanna be free! We wanna be free to do what we wanna do. We wanna be free to ride. We wanna be free to ride our machines without being hassled by The Man!” — Peter Fonda, The Wild Angels (1966)

What if.

Freedom. You are released from the darkness, control of your life regained. Left the factory, re-immersed in the creation of extraordinary art. Creating meaningful gifts, not because you can, or because that’s what cogs of your station do. Unbuckled from the circle of unnecessary bureaucracy, eating away at your art. From which only crumbs remain. Working hard, so hard that it hurts. Iterate. Persevere.

Fight the resistance.

Fear. Failure. Lack of confidence. A tiny network and a world full of strangers. Rusty tools and out-of-date skills. What about Money and the disappointment in the eyes of your loved ones?

Practice makes for learning.

A spark remains, deep down the artist is still there. Toughened from years in the factory. You will resharpen your skills, practice. Train, struggle and work some more. Learn. Navigate, be in charge, carry the purse, sweat the numbers. Spread the word, turn strangers into friends, associates.

‘And his cohorts were gleaming in purple and gold.’

Never burn a bridge. The factory needs art; there are many factories. Instead find collaborators, companions, co-conspirators who want to share their art.

Choose a medium. Connect, share, give gifts. Research, read and dive deep. Identify the constraints. Take Action.
