A lady falls for the wrong guy. A few scenarios play out, culminating in a frantic rush to an airport where Mr Right declares his love. And they live happily ever after.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"a582\" class=\"graf graf--figure graf-after--p\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"graf-image\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-images-1.medium.com\/max\/800\/1*-AgKwdt4MyNYa-dSfeBqqw.png\" data-image-id=\"1*-AgKwdt4MyNYa-dSfeBqqw.png\" data-width=\"394\" data-height=\"365\" \/><\/figure>\n<p id=\"a372\" class=\"graf graf--p graf-after--figure\">Decision making follows the same narrative. We want to make the right choices when they matter. What follows is a few insights on how to get to life\u2019s airport on time.<\/p>\n<p id=\"64a8\" class=\"graf graf--p graf-after--p\"><strong class=\"markup--strong markup--p-strong\">Always avoid the Ex.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p id=\"e4f4\" class=\"graf graf--p graf-after--p\">Investments made in the past should not influence the decision-making process. Sunk-costs will bind you to the past where regrets reside. Free yourself, look forward.<\/p>\n<p id=\"b65b\" class=\"graf graf--p graf-after--p\">Two years ago, I faced a tough decision. Uproot, sell everything and move to Warsaw, Poland. Paralysed with fear of the unknown it was easy to cling to my past investments; a home, well-defined career and a network of associates. Once I realised that these represented a sunk-cost, I was able to free myself to evaluate the decision I had to make.<\/p>\n<p id=\"e8a2\" class=\"graf graf--p graf-after--p\"><strong class=\"markup--strong markup--p-strong\">Finding Mr Right<\/strong><\/p>\n<p id=\"7525\" class=\"graf graf--p graf-after--p\">Come to terms with these; to avoid making a decision, is a decision and everybody has a blind spot. The latter refers to paradigm blindness. Our own \u2018invented\u2019 stories that obscure additional choices from us. Mr Right might be standing in your blind spot, obscured by the assumptions you unwittingly cling to.<\/p>\n<p id=\"b366\" class=\"graf graf--p graf-after--p\">Re-frame. Identify the assumptions that make up the narrative. Construct alternative stories or at the very least consider a more comprehensive set of possibilities.<\/p>\n<blockquote id=\"d7d4\" class=\"graf graf--blockquote graf--startsWithDoubleQuote graf-after--p\"><p>\u201cThe frames our minds create define\u200a\u2014\u200aand confine\u200a\u2014\u200awhat perceive to be possible\u201d, Rozamund Stone Zander and Benjiman Zander, The Art of Possibility.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p id=\"f31f\" class=\"graf graf--p graf-after--blockquote\"><strong class=\"markup--strong markup--p-strong\">Don\u2019t fall in love with the ending.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p id=\"4da4\" class=\"graf graf--p graf-after--p\">A general rule of thumb; good decisions don\u2019t necessarily result in good outcomes. Visualising, or fixating on the outcome will paralyse or lead you astray. Focus on finding Mr Right; you do not have control over the \u2018happily ever after\u2019.<\/p>\n<p id=\"fa8e\" class=\"graf graf--p graf-after--p\">Years ago I faced a decision that involved my integrity. In-depth analysis brought me to a point where I had to leave a team, career and company I still miss to this day. It was a right decision to make, despite the outcome.<\/p>\n<p id=\"b604\" class=\"graf graf--p graf-after--p\"><strong class=\"markup--strong markup--p-strong\">Place the bet<\/strong><\/p>\n<p id=\"ff6f\" class=\"graf graf--p graf-after--p\">With the investment made, the analysis prepared, its\u2019 time to place the bet. The odds are in your favour. Bet on love!<\/p>\n<p id=\"3b78\" class=\"graf graf--p graf-after--p graf--trailing\">Oh, don\u2019t forget.
